On 13th June Peter Higginbotham will be presenting, “Gruelling Experiences – Workhouses” at Keighley Library. The talk begins at 7.30pm.
Keighley’s Workhouse was first opened 1767. In 1790 it moved to rented premises in Exley Head. Despite a new Workhouse being built on Oakworth Road in 1858, life in the Workhouse proved, as Peter suggests, to be rather gruelling.
Peter’s research into The Keighley Workhouse can be read on here.

As usual entry to the speaker meeting is via the Albert Street entrance to the Library. The door will be open from 7pm to allow early entry.
Entry is £1 for members and £2 for non-members.
Drinks and light refreshments are available.
A selection of books relating to Local History are available for sale through the society at our speaker meetings. Please ask any member of the Committee for further details
