Catholic Heritage Day

On November 17th Keighley Library will be hosting a Keighley Catholic Heritage Day.

The Keighley Schools team are working with Keighley’s four Catholic schools to prepare an exhibition about Catholic Schooling in Keighley.

Photographs on display will include:

- Images dating back to the early days of St Anne’s School

- Class photographs from St Anne’s, St Joseph’s, Our Lady of Victories and Holy Family School

- Photographs taken on trips and pilgrimages

If you or your family attended any of these schools and have any photographs or items relating to the history of the school, please consider adding them to the archive. This can be done by handing the items in at any of the schools, bringing them along on the day, or through the contact page on this site.

One example of the images that will be on display at the exhibition is this photograph of the St Anne’s Football Team. The photo is of the team for the 1959/60 school year.

Members of our Facebook Group have identified most of the people in the photograph. If you can name anybody in the photo please leave a comment to let us know.

We would welcome any donations or loans of photographs relating to Keighley Catholic Schools for this exhibition. We hope that the photographs will be usable in each of the schools as either displays or in lessons.

Schools’ History Day

On 21st April the Society will be joining forces with the Keighley Schools website to host an exhibition relating to the History of Schools’ in Keighley.

This years event will have major features on:

  • Highfield School
  • Saint Andrew’s School
  • Guardhouse School

The event will also see the launch of the Our Lady of Victories Exhibit. Over 1000 old photographs have been lent to Keighley Schools by the school. A selection of these from the schools opening in 1960 through to the late 1990′s will be on display at the event. If you were a pupil at OLV, we’d love to see you at the event. Hopefully you’ll be able to help us identify some of the people in the photographs!

A group of pupils from Our Lady of Victories will be attending the event. They are part of the schools media team. This team of pupils are in the early stages of preparing a video and radio rich online magazine that will be launched at the end of May. They will be on the look out for interviewees – be warned!

The last Schools’ History Display was a great success. Work from several of our local Primary Schools was so good that it was subsequently taken to the British Museum for inclusion in the Festival of Britain!

This is an example of some of the work done in Local Primaries that was sent to the British Museum.
