A History of Saltaire

History of Saltaire

On 12th September Roger Clarke will be presenting, “A history of Saltaire” at Keighley Library. The talk begins at 7.30pm.

Roger is a leading historian of Saltaire’s past and a member of Saltaire History Club. Articles by members of this group can be found on the Saltaire Village Website.

Saltaire was founded by Titus Salt in 1851 and since 2001 has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village was one of a number of “model villages” that were built by philanthropists during the Industrial Revolution. Salt’s is one of the largest of these villages and encompassed many ideas that at the time were quite radical.
